Getting Started

Basic Measuring Tips

What You Will Need

Using the steel measuring tape – measure to the nearest 1/8″ of an inch.

  • Steel Tape Measure
  • Pencil & Paper
  • Step Ladder (if necessary)
  • Always list measurements by Width x Height

Determining Inside or Outside Mount

Inside mount:

  • Cleaner look with a flushed mount inside your window frame
  • Most popular mount option

Outside mount:

  • Will cover beyond your window opening in width and height
  • Minimizes light gaps for more privacy and light control
  • Recommended for out of square windows or with minimal depth


Measure For Inside Mount

  • Start measurement at the depth in the window frame where your brackets will be installed
  • Measure width in 3 places: the top, middle, and bottom of opening edge to edge (As shown below)
  • Record shortest measurement of the 3 places to the nearest 1/8″
  • Measure height in 3 places: left, middle and right edge to edge (As shown below)
  • Record shortest measurement of the 3 to the nearest 1/8″
  • Remember that Shades will be made to your exact measurement!


Measure For Outside Mount

  • Measure the width of the area you want to cover (2″ inch overlap on each side of the window is recommended, so 4″inches total)
  • Record measurement
  • Determine where you want the top of your blind headrail to be positioned and mark the spot
  • Measure height from the top of marked headrail position to top of sill. If no sill exist, measure below the opening to your desired length
  • Record measurement
  • Outside Mount Shades will be made to your exact measurement
